Enrollment Overview

All students applying need to complete an online Open Enrollment Application by January 2020.

Each year ASTI enrolls 50 students into the 9th grade class. Should more than 50 students apply and be eligible for enrollment, a lottery will be held to allocate positions in the freshman class and determine the order of the wait list. The lottery process will be differentiated by math level to ensure balanced class sizes. ASTI can admit up to 22 students for 9th grade Algebra 1, up to 22 students for 9th grade Geometry, and up to 6 students for 9th grade Algebra 2.

Open Enrollment Priorities for AUSD Open Enrollment Schools:

OPEN ENROLLMENT PRIORITIES FOR AUSD OPEN ENROLLMENT SCHOOLS:

2. Current AUSD students who reside in Alameda

IF YOU ARE NOT AN ALAMEDA RESIDENT, REGARDLESS OF WHERE YOUR STUDENT CURRENTLY ATTENDS SCHOOL, YOU MUST ALSO COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Go to your home school district to apply for an inter-district transfer.

  • Then bring that inter-district transfer, a current transcript, discipline record and attendance record to AUSD Student Services office beginning on May 1st.  If your inter-district transfer is approved by the district office, you will then be advised on how to complete your enrollment for the upcoming school year. Inter-districts are approved on a space available only basis.  Notification of acceptance may not be received until after school starts.

PROFILE OF A SUCCESSFUL ASTI STUDENT:
While many different students have attended and been successful at ASTI, there are specific characteristics that all successful ASTI students usually share.  Similarly, students who have come to ASTI who did not possess these characteristics have often struggled and, in some cases, have left the program early.  While these characteristics are not selection criteria, we are providing these to help students and their families decide if ASTI is the right place for them.   These characteristics include:

1. Middle School GPA 3.0 or above

2. Excellent attendance – no pattern of absences or tardies

3. Passing grades – Minimal to no D’s and F’s on transcript

4. CAASPP English & Math Scores Approaching, Met or Exceeded Standard

5. No pattern of disciplinary problems

6. Highly motivated – able to independently complete tasks and responsible for own learning
